Covers scuffed and discolored. Front hinge overopened. Minor offsetting throughout. Minor soiling to endpapers. Owner's inscription on front free endpaper and owner's stamp on tissue guard over frontispiece. Tight and clean.
This is an adventure novel of India with an interesting history of ownership. The inscriptions on the endpaper read, in several different pens, "Property of E.B. Lambert. Bought at Bombay. June 1st 1929. M/S. West Honaker. To Mrs. F.C. Forester. July 30. 1929." Stamp on tissue guard reads: "From: Geo. Ferdinand Becker Library - Rec'd Jan 1, 1970." Evidently, this was purchased by Mr. Lambert on a visit to Bombay in 1929 and passed along 2 months later to Mrs. Forester, who was a shipmate on the MS West Hanoker voyage. How it found its way to Mr. Becker, and then to us, remains a mystery. Very good. Item #1105
