This is a very handsome illustrated edition of Bulwer-Lytton's classic account of the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Today, Bulwer-Lytton may be best remembered for his infamous opening line "It was a dark and stormy night," which has inspired much derision since its first appearance in the 1830s. Very good.
