New York: Thomas Y. Crowell Co., 1898. Full leather. 8vo. Flexible vellum with gilt embossment and blind stamped cover. Gilt top edge. Headings and several passages printed in red. 42 pp.
Text block is very good, tight and clean. Vellum has become somewhat brittle and scuffed, with several chips and tears around edges. Sunning has given portions of the vellum a teal tint. Paste between vellum and front endpaper has come loose, resulting in a 6" tear inside cover. Some pages unopened. Red silk ribbon detached and laid in.
This is a scarce early printing of Van Dyke's celebration of life at sea, featuring the author's essays as well as poetry by Wordsworth, Longfellow, and others. Good / fair. Item #1320
