This is a 1902 souvenir reprint of the 1844 directory to local Chicago businesses. With an additional pink advertisement page bound in front matter. The book begins with the historical sketch of Chicago history and is followed by something of a proto-Yellow Pages, a list of business names and cross streets. Following that are several pages of interesting statistics and larger paid advertisements. This bookseller finds it fascinating to see not only the calling cards for local businesses of old, but the style in which addresses were given, such as "nearly opposite the City Hotel" and "Three doors north of Tremont buildings."
