Front board detached. Read board split but attached. Interior is excellent. Tight and clean. Pasted inside the front boards is an envelope containing a 4-page manuscript letter from the author dated November 12, 1861. The letter is cleanly torn in 3 sections on the folds and is still easily readable.
This is a scarce book by historian Mayer regarding controversial (alledged) murderer Michael Cresap, who was famously accused by President Thomas Jefferson of slaughtering an indigenous family. Additionally, a handwritten letter by Mr. Mayer is included with the sale. (Howes M451). Fair. Item #1780
