Power was a highly influential children's librarian who pioneered the Book Caravan (precursor to the Bookmobile), among many other achievements. She was an outspoken feminist and civil rights activist as well, spending her entire career in racially diverse neighborhoods and was an early advocate for and friend to Langston Hughes.
