Day. Kent Johnson, Kenny Goldsmith.

BlazeVOX; The Figures, 2003. First Edition. Paperback original. A literal work of avant garde art in the spirit of Marcel Duchamp, conceptual poet Kent Johnson's "book" deftly straddles the line between art and theft. In its simplest state, this is a copy of the 836-page poem Day by Kenny Goldsmith to which Johnson has affixed stickers claiming his own authorship, then signed and numbered. BlazeVOX sells "DIY kits" of the stickers with which you can convert your own copy of Goldsmith's masterpiece into Johnson's masterpiece. This copy, however, is signed twice by Johnson and numbered 14/100, one of the extremely limited run plagiarized by the "author" himself. As Goldsmith says in his blurb on the back sticker, "Kent Johnson’s Day stands as the first Conceptual gesture of its kind in the history of American poetry: An open, literal theft of an entire 'book,' exhibited without shame, as a new and strange Work of Art in our Museum of Modern Poetry. I can only tip my hat." Very good. Item #3
