Sunflower Splendor; Three Thousand Years of Chinese Poetry. Irving Y. Lo, Wu-chi Liu.

Sunflower Splendor; Three Thousand Years of Chinese Poetry

Indiana University Press, 1975. First Edition. Hardcover. Plate affized to flyleaf with handwritten inscription: "In grateful appreciation of your generous support of the College of Arts and Sciences. Best wishes for 1983, Irving Yucheng Lo, Jinan, Shandong, China, January, 1983." This is a first edition of the classic 630-page anthology of Chinese poetry from ancient times until the era of Mao Tse-tung. It is signed by Mr. Lo, one of the editors and translators, a former professor of East Asian Languages and Literature at Indiana University, a gift to a friend or donor perhaps. Also included with this copy is a photocopied (and very favorable) review of Sunflower Splendor from the December 21, 1975 New York Times Book Review that was found tucked in this volume when we purchased it. More than 40 years after its publication, Sunflower Splendor is still considered the definitive and most comprehensive anthology of Chinese poetry. This copy, which was kept in near-mint condition by its previous owner, would make a handsome addition to the collection of any lover of the arts. Fine / fine. Item #54
