Limited Editions Club, 1954. Marsh, Reginald. First Thus. Boards. In original slipcase. which has some loss at corners. Numbered 1261 of 1500. This is one of very few Limited Edition Club titles that were not signed by the illustrator, and in place of the usual LEC colophon is a memorial to the illustrator: "The illustrations are the final work of Reginald Marsh and are issued posthumously: for that fine artist died on 4 July, 1954."
Books from the Limited Editions Club imprint are highly collectible. Founded by George Macy in 1929, the LEC prints limited runs of fine new editions of classic literature illustrated by contemporary artists. All LEC books (except this one!) are numbered and signed by the illustrator. LEC books are adored by veteran and neophyte collectors alike, and we humbly suggest perusing the remainder of our catalog for similar offerings. Our catalog has many mid-century LEC volumes (most numbered 1261) from the library of a fastidious collector who kept his collection in fine, unread condition until his passing. Fine. Item #92
