Strangers on the Land; A historiette -- of a longer story of the Yakima Indian Nation's efforts to survive against great odds

Yakima: Franklin Press for the Yakima Indian Nation, 1962. First Edition. Pamphlet. 8vo. 9"x6". Textured staple-bound wraps. Many photos. 100 pp.
Minor edge wear and soiling to wraps. "Yakima" written in red on cover. Inscribed on title page.
Association copy. This is a scarce pamphlet by indigenous historian Click Relander on the troubled history of the Yakima Nation. Relander inscribed the pamphlet to Erminie Wheeler-Voegelin, a noted anthropologist and ethnographer who specialized in Native American folklore and history in Indiana. The inscription reads: "To Erminie: Please accept another amateur effort and feel free to comment. Click Relander." This was likely in jest, as Relander was no amateur and knew Wheeler-Voegelin at least well enough to have thanked her in the acknowledgements of his 1956 book, Drummers and Dreamers. Very good +.
