The Works of Victor Hugo [set of 8]. Victor HUGO.

The Works of Victor Hugo [set of 8]

Philadelphia: University Library Association, [1880s]. Cloth. 8vo. 8.25"x5.75". Green cloth with pastedown on spine. Gilt top edge. Several illustrated plates.
Covers have some superficial stains and scratches. Pastedowns' foxed. Minimal foxing to some endpapers. Man Who Laughs 1 and Bug-Jargal have small bored holes on bottom edge. Tight and clean.
This is an incomplete set (8 volumes out of 16) of the Bibliophile Edition of Hugo's works. Second free endpaper states that this edition is limited to 1000 signed and numbered copies, but no number or signature is present. As Hugo passed away suddenly in 1885, it is possible that these volumes had already been printed before his death, the promise of a signed limited set never to be fulfilled.

Includes the following volumes:
The man who laughs vol. 1
The man who laughs vol. 2
The toilers of the sea vol. 1
The toilers of the sea vol. 2
Ninety-Three
Poems
The history of a crime
Bug-Jargal ; Claude Gueux; The last days of a condemned. Very good. Item #988

Price: $350.00
