New York: Coward-McCann, 1928. First Edition. Hardcover. 8vo, original red cloth, lettered in black; dust jacket (unclipped). Author's first book. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: "For Edwin Baird - This sketchy barrage of the bang-bang Chicago which we both know. / Affectionately MacKinlay Kantor / August 9, 1918." (Presumably, Kantor intended to date this "1928"). Baird was the publisher of the Real Detective Tales and Mystery Stories pulp magazine, which published Kantor's previous stories.
